Both sides at once, for a reason
With nothing left to match, placement, size, color and border are all open decisions, and every one of them has to be made for the two sides together. That is why this is a single longer appointment rather than two shorter ones. Mapping both at the same time, on the same day, against the same reconstruction, is what produces a pair that looks deliberate. Splitting it across two visits means designing the second to chase the first, and the difference shows.
Placement and proportion come before pigment
A reconstructed chest is not symmetrical, and placing two areolas at identical measurements from the center line often looks more wrong, not less. Position is set by eye as well as by tape, standing and reclining, until it reads correctly on your body rather than on paper. Size is chosen in proportion to your reconstruction, and you look in a mirror and agree the mapping before any pigment is implanted.
Choosing a color with nothing to copy
Without a remaining areola to work from, color is built from your own skin tone, your natural undertone, and what you actually want. Some clients want the color they remember; others take the chance to choose something softer or warmer. There is no correct answer and it is genuinely your decision. Pigment is mixed and swatched against your skin before anything is committed.
Timing, clearance and how the appointment runs
Reconstruction must be fully healed first, generally at least six months after your final surgery, and always with sign-off from your surgeon or oncology team. Radiated skin needs its own assessment, as it holds pigment differently. The appointment is private, longer than any other service here, and paced by you: you can stop at any point and nothing happens without being explained first. A second session after healing builds depth and adjusts color against the settled result.
Questions
3D Nipple Tattoo - Two Nipples, answered
Because symmetry is designed, not repeated. Mapping and color-matching both sides in the same sitting, against the same reconstruction, is what makes them look like a pair. Doing one and then the other means the second is always chasing the first.
Generally a minimum of six months after your final surgery, and always with clearance from your surgeon or oncology team.
No. With both sides being built there is nothing to match, so the color is genuinely a choice. Plenty of clients pick something a little softer than they remember. It is swatched against your skin before anything is implanted.
Some plans cover areola restoration as part of reconstruction. Ask your provider. You may need a referral or a procedure code from your surgeon.
Usually two: the initial restoration and a second after healing to build depth and adjust color against the settled result.
