Patchy healing is the norm, not a problem
Lip tissue regenerates faster than skin and it does so unevenly, so it is completely normal for a first lip session to heal with lighter patches, usually in the centre of the lower lip and at the outer corners. Nothing has gone wrong. The touch up lays a second, more even layer over healed tissue that now holds pigment much better than it did the first time.
Depth, and the option to go warmer
This is also where overall intensity is dialled in. Clients who wanted barely-there for the first round frequently ask to go a shade deeper once they have seen how sheer the heal is. Colour direction can be nudged warmer or cooler here too, within what your natural lip tone will support.
The antiviral rule applies again
If you took antiviral medication before your first lip appointment, take it before this one. Any lip trauma can trigger a cold sore outbreak, and a second session is no less capable of it than the first.
